CONVERSATION LESSON PLAN
Written and produced by one2one in 2012, this lesson plan provokes a response to statements and questions that are both topical and controversial. With thanks to our students feedback and the input from contributors.
This opinion originates from you although it could be based on many factors. If it's truly how you feel you will have to add voice tones and control your speed of speech along with something to demonstrate why you feel this way. Our system depends on your ability to apply theory so practice as much as you can to obtain confidence.
Confidence is 90% of this process
There are occasions where we need to provide a much stronger opinion, usually when we are discussing controversial topics such as politics. Voice tones here are key as they can influence audience understanding.
I am so sure that ..................
I am absolutely convinced that ..................
I strongly believe that ......................
There is no doubt in my mind that ..............
I really believe that ...........
We don't always want to provide an opinion from a single voice, there are occasions where we want to be the voice that represents many. Common in work environments this form of opinion is no exception when it comes to expressing how many people think about an idea, concept or thought.
Most people think that ........................
Many people think that .......................
There are people who believe that ........................
The majority of people think that .......................
Everyone thinks that ........................
Everybody thinks that .................................
Generally, students are taught that they should wait for a question to be asked before they talk, this concept can complicate the learning process since in reality conversation flows both ways. Asking questions is as important as being asked. You should practice this technique in class as it can impact the duration of a conversation dramatically.
Conversation training will demonstrate this concept and show you that the skill of being able to interact with an audience is crucial to the learning process. Intonation is key here too as too little and your audience doesn't think that you want to engage, too much and the audience feel uncomfortable. Relating to a mother tongue can sometimes help with knowing when and how to react.
WHEN WE DON'T WANT TO SPEAK
Sometimes, we just don't want to speak about a particular topic or engage in any conversation.
Would you mind if we could discuss this another time.
I'm afraid that I can't talk about this right now.
Let's change the subject.
Let's not go into that.
I don't want to talk about that/this.
It's not a good time to talk.
I can't talk to you at the moment.
Our lesson plans are designed to form a structure that's engaging, creative and designed to hold attention. Try and expand on your opinion by providing examples.
