Let's start with the obvious, relating to an audience is all about sounding interesting, keen, enthusiastic and demonstrating a genuine want and need to transfer knowledge. Some languages are very direct and don't always reflect these qualities. It's ok nothing is better just different and that's exactly what I would like to talk about today.
As we have already taken a look at the introduction in last weeks edition, today we will start by looking at objectives:
* I would like to talk to you about...
* I'm going to demonstrate.....
* I would like to take a look at......
Your greeting had empathetic voice value when you started your presentation so stating a topic will too. You can't tell the difference between styles unless your shown so these are:
somehow lose respect or control. These voice tones are likened to a parent and a child scenario and are often far from effective. The last is a voice tone that indicates when you are happy, sad, keen or angry to name a few. Modern businesses likes this voice tone since it demonstrates emotional value. This emotional value helps to relate to an audience in every scenario and will be a useful tool in mastering the art of presentations. So let's take a look at how your voice tone affects a presentation:
* Attention please, I am about to start. This is more of an order than and this will have a negative effect. Using good morning, good afternoon or good evening will carry more empathetic value.
* I will take your questions at the end of my presentation. This could be robotic and indicate that you really just want to finish. It could also show your audience that there is no emotional connection to your audience. I would be only too pleased to answer all of your questions at the very end of the presentation.
This has definitely got great empathetic voice value and shows that you care about what feedback you get. If your interested to learn more on this topic, try our English For Work course. Join us next week for more on Business English, for now goodbye.

Hello everyone and welcome to this weeks edition of Talk. Today I am going to help to identify with the vocabulary used in business presentations. Often confusing and sometimes challenging to understand, I am going to show you the various stages and define structure.
Presentations are not always held in very large conference centers, they can be in a meeting form such as a sales presentation or even a conference call. Ironically the structure is the same just modified. Most important is the greeting, very often this is more effective if used with a voice tone which is stressed. So here this will sound like this:
This introduction follows and for the purpose of this example I will be Tom Bowen the Head Of International Sales, I work for Zana distributions in Italy. So this would sound like this:
My name is Tom Bowen, I am the Head Of International Sales for Zana Distributions in Italy. Now comes the empathetic sentence that shows the audience how you feel. This will sound like this:
On behalf of our office here in Italy, I would like to thank you all for coming. Before we move to the next section, lets put these components together.
* Good morning
* My name is Tom Bowen and I am the Head Of International Sales for Zana Distributions in Italy.
* On behalf of our office here in Italy, I would like to thank you all for coming.
Now in the introduction section, you can see that to introduce yourself to someone, we use the form; my name is". With introducing your company in this form of introduction we use:
I am + job title
For the welcome we use:
Thank you for coming or a variation which has the same value.
Practicing this type of presentation format will help you with conference calls, physical meetings and presentations. DEAR MANDI, LET ME SAY YOU A BIG "THANK YOU" FOR YOUR HELP WITH PREPARING ME TO IELTS EXAM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONFIDENCE AND SUPPORT. EVEN WHEN MY HOME WORKS WERE DIFFICULT AND I HAD NO TIME,- I ALWAYS TRIED TO COMPLETE EVERYTHING IN TIME BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO DISAPPOINT YOU. YOU HELPED ME TO BE MORE CONFIDENT IN EACH PART OF THE EXAM, ESPECIALLY IN SPEAKING. IN THE BOTTOM LINE - ALL MY GOAL WERE REACHED! I HOPE TO SEE YOU NEXT TIME YOU VISIT IN ISRAEL.
I TOOK A LESSON WITH SANJ IN ORDER TO PREPARE TO A TELEPHONE INTERVIEW I WAS ABOUT TO HAVE. HE ALSO HELPED ME TO FORMULATE BETTER ANSWERS TO COMMON INTERVIEW QUESTIONS – ALL OF THESE IN ONLY ONE HOUR! THE PREPARATION DEFINITELY HELPED ME TO FEEL MORE CONFIDENT AND TO SPEAK MORE FLUENTLY DURING THE INTERVIEW, AND EVENTUALLY TO GET THE JOB!
